|To honor the men and women whose lives ended prematurely
on September 11, 2001 and also the rescue workers, law enforcement,
and support staff that give of themselves so freely, I have begun
collecting quilt blocks. These blocks will be put together into
quilts to be donated to the people of NYC. All donated squares will
be made into quilts for this project.
These quilts will be collected by the Sunshine
Quilt Guild for delivery in January. This gives us enough time
to make a significant contribution. We've set a goal of 300 quilts.
It also allows time for the relief operation to be sorted out
enough to determine who best to receive the quilts.
There aren't any specific guidelines regarding size, design, or
background fabric. It's fun to see the creativity of the contributors.
I plan on using fabric strips as needed to piece the blocks together.
I'll be very happy to accept and use your blocks no matter your
I will be accepting blocks until mid - November.
Send blocks to me at:
9647 Folsom Blvd PMB 126

Please include your email addy so I can let you
know when they arrive and to notify you when I have pictures posted
of the finished quilts. Also please mention if it is alright to
use your first name and last initial on the label.

So far I have recieved over 200 blocks from all over the U.S.,
Canada, and England. Most are embroidered with patriotic and rememberance
designs. One lady did several squares of lovely roses. Another
lady did lighthouses. There are hearts, and angels all over the
place! Just today I received 26 pieced star blocks from a group
of women in Iowa. Way to go America!!!
Four more packages have arrived. Haven't had time to open and
count them. Will update soon :)
Sorry for the lack of updates. The final count for blocks is 337!!!!
Fabulous work everyone. The quilts are currently being pieced
and quilted by Quilting Angels (Sunshine Guild members), Ruth
S., Deb L., and Judy L. They are helping me to complete this project
because I am caring for my grandparents whose health has been
getting worse. I will be recieving photos and will post them asap.
Also a final destination for the quilts has
been selected. The Children's Hospital of New York -Presbyterian
will receive the quilts in honor of the fallen heros of September
